Psychic Affections

It refers to the physiological and bodily changes (in temperament, color, pulse, etc.) that are caused by states of the soul such as joy, grief, anger, and fear. They are considered essential diagnostic signs and etiological factors in medicine. They are symptoms (aʿrāḍ) that reveal the state of the patient’s spirit and temperament, and they can also be the direct causes of illness.
